What about Fridays

The stress of finding a place in tertiary school is starting to kick in because suddenly, education became so important. Just last Saturday, I went out to Lasalle for a talk, today I got interviewed in Ngee Ann Poly and on 6th August, I'd have to attend another interview in RP. I know, it's insane.

School was meh so I'm not going to talk about that. What I want to talk about was my trip to Ngee Ann Poly and dude..it was huge. And I'm talking about upsized buildings, upsized everything. It was easy for me to get lost in there.

Right when school ended, I took my portfolio, report book and what not from home and travelled there by train for about close to an hour or more? I didn't keep track but it did felt like hours. My mom was there with me for moral support so everything was more than okay. I was advised not to share what happened during the interview but I can say that it was intense. Ain't no harm with saying intense.

Buzz Day

I don't really like to mention about my birthday to people because I have the mindset where the more people know, the more you would expect something nice out of it. And I don't like to have that kind of expectations, especially close friends so I prefer to keep it as low profile as possible.
People would end up finding it out by themselves anyway.

Well it's my birthday today, there's nothing much to it actually since I decided not to do anything this year (long story). But my friends were great for being there.

I kind of expected something was going on when Alysa and Crystal was texting weird. But I was surprised that the rest of them ended up at my door with a cake. It was really nice and unexpected. I felt that it became a bit awkward because I didn't know what to do, but I guess we all would feel that way in that kind of position. Hui Ping filmed the whole thing which was good since I forgot to take a picture with them and the cake (alot went through my mind ok).

We shared the cake under a void deck because Joanne wanted to eat it too. It was cool to see them again and catch up since we rarely get to see each other anymore especially because of my O Level exams that are going to bite my arse in a few months time.

To LASALLE and beyond

For my Saturday, I went out to LASALLE  for a talk on tertiary art education which my teacher opt me for. And at first, I wasn't interested in going since I've already applied for Arts Business in Ngee Ann but hey, I decided to give it a chance and check out whats the deal about this place.

It's a less than an hour MRT ride there and surprisingly it's so close to home. I thought it would be around town and not at Little India, so plus points for distance man.
But wasn't easy for me to find the school since I've only set foot there once and it was 2 years ago. Heck, I even forgot what I was doing then. I got lost and was on the direct opposite route that I was supposed to be on. And it took me awhile to realise that the street signs didn't match what was on google maps..yeah
The school wasn't half bad, not what I expected it to be though. I was expecting big fields, tall fences, air-conditioned hallways but it was just a building propped in the middle of construction sites. Like one of those shopping malls no one really goes. Other than that, everything else looks pretty sweet. I'm not an architecture enthusiast but the building looks awesome. What is privacy when you have glass windows for walls.

I became danventurous (what?) and went around exploring, especially the toilets, the toilets were nice and they had an exhibition on nationwide artworks by students for the public to see. Which made me wonder, is that how art is going to be at a tertiary level?

I'm not planning to go to neither NAFA or Lasalle and the talk today assured that. I think people have the idea that if you're good in art then you should be in an SOTA or NAFA but I don't have to.  I don't have to be in an arts school to show what I'm passionate about.
Furthermore, I don't think any of the schools can teach me how to be an artist I envision myself to be. They are rigid, they want us to follow what they view in art and maybe it's okay to many but not for me. It feels like there's no freedom, like it's more left brain than right brain and I can't deal with that.
I hope that I am right about this and follow my gut with Ngee Ann.
